October 7, 2018 Feast of Our Lady of Rosary ROSARY RALLY at St. Antoninus Church When Christianity was in extreme peril in the hands of the Turkish Ottoman Empire, Pope St Pius V organized the faithful to prepare for battle while the crusaders were on their battleships- using only one weapon - the Rosary. Against great odds, the crusaders won a naval victory at Lepanto on Oct. 7, 1571, achieving an overwhelming victory in the largest sea battle fought up to that time. And this was attributed to the Rosary. The Ottoman Empire lost about 240 galleys and saw 30,000 killed. The League of Nations lost only 7,600 men and 12 sunken galleys. An exultant Saint Pius V added the Feast of the Holy Rosary to the Church calendar and the invocation “Auxilium Christianorum” to the litany of Our Lady, since the victory was due to her intercession. Today, 447 years later, our Catholic Church is likewise under the siege of the enemy. At this time of great crisis in the Church all over the world, and in particular in America, the battleground is not Lepanto but the entire country. The was set up for the whole America to pray the Rosary to beg our Lady of Rosary to intercede for this country in defeating the enemy and to bring this country back to God. And so, on the Feast of our Lady of the Rosary and the Victory of the Battle of Lepanto, last Sunday, October 7, St Antoninus held a Rosary Crusade outside our Church, in union with the many parishes all over the country, to pray the Holy Rosary. Let us pray: Our Lady of Victory, Queen of Most Holy Rosary, it was your intercession that won victory at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571 that saved Christianity from the hands of the enemies through the Holy Rosary. We have unshaken confidence in your influence with your Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ. We beg your powerful intercession at this time of great crisis in our Church, to bring about the Lord's victory to defeat the enemy and bring the Church and the whole world back to God, under the Lordship of your Son, Jesus Christ. May we join you to praise forever the Father, His Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, one God, for all the ages to come. Amen. |
